Brighton Completes Crosswalk Enhancement Project
The City of Brighton Downtown Development Authority’s enhanced pedestrian signs have been installed. The new signs were placed at the crosswalks along Main Street between Grand River Avenue and First Street to replace the in-ground crossing lights. The yield signs will remain in the crosswalks.
Please note that when a pedestrian hits the “walk” button, the signs on both sides of the intersection will light up to stop cars in all travel lanes from entering the intersection. This change will alert drivers to a crossing pedestrian earlier creating a safe perimeter between the car and pedestrian. Please remember that state law requires drivers to yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk.
The City of Brighton thanks Main Street travelers for their patience and extra caution during this transition and encourages everyone to continue to enjoy Main Street safely whether in a car or on foot!
